Basically she was removed by the a U.S. backed coup and lost here throne.  She tried to save Hawai'i but at the risk of losing her throne.  The U.S.A. overpowered her.

Then the Hawaiians could not rule a Hawai'i, but rather people thousands of miles away did.

This brakes the U.S. principles of self rule.
